Maska’ is a high budget movie produced by MS Raju on Sumanth Art Productions banner, featuring Ram, Hansika and Sheela in the main cast. Director B.Gopal and producer MS Raju come up with a youthful romantic action entertainer for the Sankranthi festival. The film has raised a lot of expectations and it manages to live up to the expectations to a large extent.

Story: Krish (RAM) is a happy go lucky type who spends all his time away with his friend Sunil. Krish stays with his brother Naresh and sister-in-law Jhansi.

Krish wants to lead an easy life and so he plans to hang a girl who is on her way to the United States. By marrying such a girl, he hopes to go to the United States and lead a cozy life for ever. Krish comes across such a girl in Manju (Sheela) who has just got a US visa to pursue higher education in New Jersey.

Krish follows her and manages to impress her playing upon her weakness. Just when he is about to win over her love enters Meenakshi (Hansika Motwani). Krish is now caught between the two beautiful girls.

But slowly Krish realizes that he is hopelessly in love with Meenakashi. But this time, Manju also falls in love with Krish.

But Krish’s double game is exposed just before the interval bang and Meenakshi leaves Krish saying that he is a cheat.

Post interval, Krish is left fending off the advances of Manju, who is now determined to marry him at any cost.

The film then takes on a curious turn as two powerful MPs, Mukesh Rushi and Pradeep Rawat are after Meenakshi.

Who is Meenakshi and why the two MPs, who are also big factionists after her? What happens to the love of Krish and Meenakshi? What happens to Manju? Answers for all these questions and much more can be found on the silver screen.

Performance:

Ram comes up with an impressive performance. He is full of energy and he does a good job, both as a lover boy and also as an action hero. His dance steps in a couple of songs are also very impressive.

Hansika Motwani is as gorgeous as she was in her debut film Desamuduru. She comes up with a decent performance and excels in the glamour department.

Sheela comes across as a big surprise. Sheela played a homely girl next door character in Parugu. However, in Maska she is completely transformed into a hot and sexy actress. Sheela sizzles and gives a tough competition to Hansika in terms of glamour and oomph.

Sunil plays the best friend to Ram and he does a lot of comedy. Sunil comes up with a full length comic role after a long time and he proves that he is still as good as ever.

Mukesh Rushi and Pradeep Rawat do justice to their roles as factionists turned MPs. Naresh is okay while Jhansi comes up with another impressive performance. She plays a girl from Nellore and her performance is in a way, a continuation of her ‘Kokapet Aunty’ role in Tulasi.

Music by Chakry is okay and the songs have some fast beats and are set to foot tapping music. The screenplay is also interesting.

The film runs in a fast and entertaining manner in the first half but slows down a bit in the second half. The enmity between Mukesh Rushi and Pradeep Rawat bogs down the pace of the film considerably.

Maska is a paisa vasool film with lots of action and entertainment and the two leading ladies, Hansika and Sheela are a treat to watch.

The film is very lengthy, almost three hours.

STARRING : Tanish, Madhavilatha, Kasi Vishwanath and others
MUSIC : Sekhar Chandra
DIRECTOR : Allari Ravi Babu
RELEASE DATE : December 18th, 2008

Review: Good

The film Nacchavule stars newcomers in the lead roles. The film is a simple, sensible and cute story about the life of a teenaged boy from birth to his first crush to his first girl friend and how he finds his true love.

Story:

Luva Kumar (Tanish) is the eldest son of middle class parents. He is a teenager and he also has a kid brother. Like all the boys of his age, he is also desperately looking to woo girls. He makes several attempts but fails all the time.

Luva Kumar finally manages to be a friend of a cute little girl Anu (Madhavilatha). Anu lives with his widowed father and she takes good care of him. She works in a coffee shop. Luva Kumar takes Anu’s father to a hospital when he suffers from heart attack and this timely help saves his life.

Anu is indebted to him and so she agrees to his request of acting like his girlfriend for some time. Anu agrees but sets some conditions. These conditions are that Luva Kumar should not make any advances; he should not touch her and also not to try any acts like kissing.

Luva Kumar uses the company of Anu to the hilt and slowly becomes a lover boy. But without realizing Anu slowly falls in love with him. Along the way Luva Kumar slowly turns into a Casanova. He starts neglecting Anu.

Luva Kumar captures Anu kissing him on his mobile. Luva Kumar’s brother steals the phone and sells it to a pawn broker. The MMS clip is soon on every mobile. Anu shuns Luva Kumar.

But the sudden death of Luva Kumar’s mother brings a change in him. The rest of the story is how he gets back his love.

There are several twists and turns and there is also a villain Maddy who tries to foil Luva Kumar’s attempts at every stage.

Performance:

The guy who plays hero has done a neat job. He looks very convincing in his role of a teenager and his relationship with his parents has also been correctly captured.

The heroine is short but cute. She gives a good account of herself as a caring daughter and also as friend and lover.

Ravi Babu appears for a few second in a scene and he draws a huge response from the audience.

The other star cast does full justice to their roles. The story is simple and the screenplay is also quite interesting. The film runs in a light hearted and entertaining manner in the first half.

It is only late into the second half that the film becomes a bit heavy with sentiment and revenge drama.

The music is good and the song ‘Padmavathi…Padmavathi…’ is interesting and appeals to the youngsters immensely.

The film will appeal to the teenagers immensely as it is a true depiction of the life of an average middle class teenager. Director Ravi Babu manages to weave a decent story and there is also a subtle but strong message in the end –children should look at life not from their own perspective but they should also try to look at life from the perspective of their parents.

Ushakiron Movies has the image of making decent films that can be watched by the entire family. Nacchavule lives up to this image.

STARRING : Ravi Teja, Seiya, Brahmanandam, Mumaith Khan, Supreet and others
MUSIC : Chakri
DIRECTOR : Puri Jagannath
RELEASE DATE : December 18th, 2008

Review: Average

The film Neninthe raised a lot of expectations as the hit combination of Ravi Teja and Puri were coming together for the third time. The film is about Tollywood, the actors and technicians and the way it works.

Story:

Ravi (Ravi Teja) is a hard working assistant director. He has a great passion for movies and his aim in life is to become a big director. Sandhya (Seiya) is a group dancer and she is the younger sister of Krishna Bhagawan’s wife.

Ravi and Sandhya work for the same film and they also stay in opposite houses in Krishna Nagar. Seiya falls in love with Ravi but he does not reciprocate her love. He loves her but he is a very practical man. He knows that he is a struggling assistant director just about managing to make a living.

Ravi narrates a story to producer Sayaji Shinde and hero Subba Raju. They like the stoy and agree to give a chance to him as director. Vidu (Supreet) is a local rowdy and he lusts for Sandhya.

Supreet is all the time running after Sandhya and wants her to fulfill his desire. When Ravi’s film titled ‘Neninthe’ is stopped half way due to financial problems, Vidu enters the scene and agrees to finance the film. He later tries to claim credit for the film and puts his name as producer as well as director of the film.

Sandhya pleads with Vidu to give credit in the titles to Ravi as the director. He agrees on one condition, Sandhya should sleep with him. She agrees and goes to Vidu’s house. But Ravi has other plans. In the climax, Vidu is finally killed and the film is released with Ravi’s name as the director in the titles.

Performance:

Ravi Teja is good and he does full justice to his role. He however is not his flamboyant self and his role is very subdued and this may not go down well with his fans. The trademark Ravi Teja ‘punch’ dialogues are also missing.

Newcomer Seiya is okay but she lacks the special appeal and charm that differentiate a hot actress and routine a heroine. She looks more like a girl next door.

Supreet has a big role and dominates the film in almost every frame from start to finish. Sayaji Shinde plays his part of a passionate producer to perfection. Brahmanandam as director Idly Viswanatham goes about his job in a professional manner.

VV Vinayak makes a guest appearance. Mumiath Khan gets to do a hot dance number. Subba Raju, Venu Madhav, Rama Prabha and others do their part as er the requirement of the script.

The song ‘Krishnanagare Maava… Krishnagare Maava…’ is set to some foot tapping music.

Ravi Teja’s dialogue to Seiya “a person who does not earn a penny has no right to say ‘I Love You’ to a girl” draws loud response from the audience. Puri also takes several pot shots at the media, websites, directors, actors and other people in the film industry but spares the producers.

The film lacks enough entertainment values. The comedy is also just average

The film runs very slowly, both in the first half as well as the second half.

Neninthe is definitely not what one expects from a director of the caliber of Puri Jagannath. He is capable of doing much more.

Source: [IndiaGlitz]: Dongala Bandi’ starring ‘Allari’ Naresh, Tanya as hero and heroines has been directed by writer-turned-director Vegesna Sathish. GSK Naidu produced the movie on GSK Network banner. Based on a treasure hunt, the movie is scripted as a wholesome comedy entertainer. The movie got released on 12th December and is being screened in theatres now. A review on the movie is being presented that criticizes the pros and cons.

Story

Nizam (Melkote) consents to unite the Nizam domain into independent India and he orders his General of Army (Senapathi) (Ashok kumar) to shift their treasures by placing them in an iron box. During the transportation, three thieves (MS, Venu Madhav and Ali) get to know about the treasure and steal the treasure box. They hide it under a lake situated between rocks with a plan to retrieve it later. The gang plans to share the treasure amongst them selves after the merging of Nizam’s domain with India. They draw a map to mark the location of the treasure and tear it into three pieces. Each piece is held by one of them until they unite to retrieve it.

Later in the long run, two of them gets lost and disappears. The only one left behind was Okka Magadu (MS Narayana) who keeps trying to contact the other two but in vain. Krishna (Naresh) is his grandson, who is an expert in burglary. In the same village, there resides the family of a lady burglar Aishwarya. This family is a relation of another thief who is one of the three burglars from the Nizam treasures stealers. In close quarters, Krishna meets Aishwarya, and their acquaintance develops into love.

During this time, Okka Magadu informs Krishna that the second bit of map is with Aishwarya’s grandfather. They both start searching for the third bit of the map, and accidentally meets Venu Madhav. After knowing the third bit’s availability, the three thieves go on a treasure hunt. A twist in the story takes place when the General of Army (Ashok kumar) recovers from coma and gets the news about these three guys and tags behind them to get his treasure back.

Who succeeds among the three groups in the treasure hunt? What are the twists in the hunt? The answers have to be watched on screen.

Performance of Artists

Naresh who was going well with his ease in performance and successfully reaping laughs from audience, is seen in a bit of underplay in this movie. Except for his dialogues deliveries imitating top heroes, he failed miserable to focus on the subject.

Thanya might garner some attention cause of her glamour but not for her performance for sure. Other artists MS, Ali, Kovai Sarala, Venu Madhav, Rao Ramesh, Jeeva, Jaiprakash Reddy, Shakeela, Geetha Singh, Malishka, Pooja Bharathi, ‘Chitram’ Seenu, Venu, Kondavalasa, Suman Shetty, are all enclosed in a cubicle which restrains scope for their acting skills. The characterization is quite artificial which provokes boredom.

Technical aspects

A definite lag in the script has a considerable impact over the technical values. Even if the technicians might have tried to bring in quality, it would be futile. But actually their contribution is quite less in this movie. Valluri Rajasekhar’s music is quite good but the negligence in lyrics has drained his efforts. Songs fail to hit the mark and doesn’t appeal due to improper words. S. Arun Kumar’s cinematography is not fascinating and has no attractive visual treat.

Editing work by Nandamuri Hari is average and doesn’t speed up the movie’s pace.

Director’s Portrayal

The director who was an erstwhile writer contributed stories and dialogues for many popular movies. But he has failed to bring freshness in the story and screenplay for his movie. While the movie runs many were seen asking for pillows as the director had tested their patience to the core.

Since the movie began shooting, the director was seen boasting about the movie as a visual comedy. But alas! We can’t find the humor even in words after repetitive trails to rig it using a lens for magnification. The movie stands clear evidence for Vegesna Satish’s failure as a director in his first attempt.

Criticism

Taking a looped story which doesn’t have a clear beginning or ending, as a subject the makers tried to churn out a comedy. They were unable to properly utilize the talent of top comedy heroes, and artists. In an attempt to tickle the audience funny bone, they have in fact confused the spectators. Consequently, ‘Dongala Bandi’ which was supposed to reach the destination of success safely, had ended up plunging into a pothole. Surely, the one who is going to be at loss is the producer. Hope, the debutant director succeeds in making us laugh with his next attempt at least or he better get back to being a writer.

Later, by his friend Altaf’s help (Surya Teja) Karthik gets a job in the creative department of Reliance Mobile Company. There he comes across Kalpana (Sonia) with whom he falls at love in first sight itself. She is a girl with specific ideas on life. She starts liking Karthik, but never reveals her love to him. Did Karthik who loved Kalpana at first sight, expressed his love to her? What were the consequences? How it all ended? Watch this big time entertainer on the big screen.

Artists’ performance

Sonia who was appreciated for her role as Shravs in ‘Happy Days’ exhibited good performance as a solo heroine in this film. She could be applauded for presenting sensitive emotions very well in some sequences.

Krishnudu who was popular with ‘Happy Days’ has bought the character Karthik to life. As the subject is suitable to his physique, never he seems to be acting in the role. In every scene, he exhibited apt expressions and justifies the role of ‘Vinayakudu’ cent-per-cent. He has literally lived out the character.

Action of Poonam Kaur as Sandy, Surya Teja as Altaf is good. To be specific, Surya Teja has exhibited much ease in performing his character. Satya Krishnan as Karthik’s sister does good. Similarly, Ankith, Adarsh and Murali Krishna have emoted within the limits of their characters. After a long gap, actress Tulasi does a role in this film. Presenter Premkumar Patra, director Sai Kiran Adivi and cameraman PG Vinda appears on screen in short sequences.

Work of the Crew

Although, this is his first film, Sam Prasan has composed good music with notable songs. An experiment done in re-recording for some scenes is quite appealing. A little more effort in re-recording would have been appreciated.

PG Vinda, who did the cinematography for ‘Grahanam’, ‘Nandana Vanam 120km’ including the recent release ‘Ashta Chamma’, did his part perfectly and rendered good photography to the scenes in this movie. He used close-ups in most of the scenes which adds beauty to the demeanors.

Editing by Marthand K Venkatesh need not be praised for he is the best of all. He has done his job to the point of perfection with his scissors. The rest of the members of the technical divisions have delivered good team work.

Directors Portrayal

Sai Kiran Adivi an associate of Shekhar Kammula, made this feel good entertainer as his first venture in direction, and exhibited his nifty taste. In presenting the story and screenplay, he seldom fails in narration and doesn’t miss the tempo anywhere. The punch dialogues that are satirical written by Sai have been timed correctly to the mark. Shekhar Kammula’s factory has presented another new talented director to the industry in the form of Sai Kiran Adivi.

Cons

In this feel good entertainer, the incorporation of Ankitha’s character which is more villainy does not appeal the crowd. Quite a nice feel good movie yet its target upon the niche audience is a strong disappointment. The characters lag at certain places to associate themselves with audiences of different strata. If made in a more general tone, the movie might have reached the masses in entirety.

Criticism

For Pure love, physical beauty is not important, only the purity in love is needed, with this beautiful message as the theme the film ‘Vinayakudu’ has made. What could have been a feel good entertainer for the entire crowd lags behind for it has been made pointedly for the corporate audiences. It would have been even better if it was made for everyone. But still on a whole, the debutant director Sai Kiran has hit the bull’s eye almost with his very first venture.

A big fat love story is quite a big time entertainer!
